Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings got a pair of goals from Carson Golder and 25 saves from Sebastian Cossa as they blanked the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-0 at Rogers Place on Saturday night to take a 2-0 series lead in their best-of-seven series.

For a second straight game the Oil Kings and Hurricanes skated in a scoreless opening 20 minutes, though both teams were not without their chances.

The Oil Kings appeared to have opened the scoring 30 seconds into the contest after the puck crossed the Lethbridge goal line during a mad scramble in their Hurricanes crease, but a quick whistle thwarted the would-be icebreaker.

Just a few shifts later, Jalen Luypen was sent in alone on a breakaway after a great long-bomb feed from Kaiden Guhle, but Luypen's backhand offering was blockered away by Lethbridge netminder Bryan Thomson who stopped all 13 shots he faced in the first.

The Hurricanes pushed back in the period with both Yegor Klavdiev and Justin Hall getting a pair of point-blank opportunities on Cossa, but the Detroit Red Wings first-rounded had the answer on both chances on his way to a clean six-save frame.

In the second period, the Oil Kings fired 18 more pucks the way of Thomson in the Lethbridge cage and it would be defenceman-turned-forward, Carson Golder, beating him twice to give Edmonton a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Golder broke the scoreless tie at 6:39 of the middle stanza after he pounced on a rebound, created by a Jakub Demek shot, spun and fired a shot past the blocker of Thomson.

Late in the period, the Hurricanes came close the knotting the score at one after Logan Wormald setup Corson Hopwo for a one-time blast in the right-wing circle on a nearly perfectly executed two-on-one rush, but Cossa came up with his best save of the game getting his right shoulder on shot.

Golder then made it 2-0 with just over a minute left in the period and again, it would be him pouncing on a rebound generated off a Demek shot, this time driving the net and shoveling home the loose puck at the top of the blue paint.

The Hurricanes pressed to get back in the game in the third period but were foiled on all 10 of their shots in the last frame by Cossa.

Dylan Guenther put the game officially out of reach in the late stages with a power play goal, a near carbon copy of his goal from game one, as he blasted home a one-timer from the left-circle off a Kaiden Guhle blast.

Guhle salted the game away with a shorthanded empty goal with just over two minutes left in the contest.

Cossa finished the night making 25 saves for his first career playoff shutout, while Thomson made 39 saves at the other end for the visitors. The Oil Kings went 1-for-2 on the power play, the 'Canes were 0-for-2.

Next up, the series shifts to Lethbridge for Game 3 on Tuesday, April 26 with puck drop from the Enmax Centre slated for 7:00 PM.
