Spokane Chiefs News Release
Kamloops, B.C. - The Spokane Chiefs found some late-game momentum, but couldn't hang on in their 6-2 loss to the Kamloops Blazers Saturday night.
The Blazers once again opened the scoring, but not until 17:11 in the first period this time as Luke Toporowski fired home his third goal of the post-season.
Spokane netminder Mason Beaupit was otherwise lights out turning aside 21 of 22 shots throughout 28:38 played before getting hurt about halfway through the second period. He was replaced by Cooper Michaluk.
Daylan Kefler capitalized on a Chiefs turnover late in the second period to tack on another goal to Kamloops' lead and make it 2-0 heading into the third period.
The Blazers kept their momentum going into the final frame, as Connor Levis notched his first goal of the playoffs at 8:25.
Spokane finally found their footing almost halfway through the period when defenseman Graham Sward fired a one-timer from the blue line into the back of the net for the Chiefs' first goal of the playoffs at 9:37. Chase Bertholet and Erik Atchison earned assists on the play.
Just over a minute later, former Blazer Nick McCarry tipped in a great feed from team captain Bear Hughes - his first goal of the post-season - to bring the Chiefs within two.
But that's as close as Spokane would get, as the Blazers went on to add back-to-back goals from Toporowski and Matthew Seminoff at 13:59 and 14:47 to cap the scoring at 6-2.
After Michaluk replaced Beaupit in net, he stopped 10-of-15 shots faced, while on the other side of the ice Dylan Garand turned aside 21-of-23 Chiefs shots. Related Links
