
Oil Kings Hire Ladislav Smid as Development Coach

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings have hired former Edmonton Oilers defenceman Ladislav Smid as a Development Coach, the club announced today.
Smid, 36, recently announced his retirement from his 17-year professional hockey playing career after spending the past five seasons playing with Liberec Bili Tygri HC in the top professional league in his native country of Czechia.
The Frydlant, Czechia was drafted into the NHL in the first round, ninth overall, by the Anaheim Ducks in 2004. He was subsequently traded to the Edmonton Oilers in July 2006 and would go onto play 474 games with the club over eight seasons.
Smid finished his NHL career suiting up in 109 games with the Calgary Flames over parts of three seasons from 2013-2016.
He has also played internationally on several occasions, representing Czechia at three World Junior Championships (2004, 2005 and 2006), two World Hockey Championships (2007 and 2013) and one Olympic Games (2014).
The Oil Kings are excited to welcome Ladislav and the entire Smid family into the Oil Kings family.
The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is Friday, October 21 when they welcome the Prince Albert Raiders to Rogers Place at 7:00 P.M.
