Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Red Deer, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings wrapped up the regular season in style as they took a 7-3 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday night. With the win the Oil Kings notched their 50th win of the season to clinch their third Scotty Munro Trophy in franchise history as the WHL regular season champions!
Edmonton was quick out of the gates as TJ Foster tallied his 30th of the season off a nice play from Henrik Samuelsson five minutes in. The Oil Kings would not let up as rookie Curtis Lazar was able to find a rebound on the power play to make it s 2-0 lead going into the second.
The second period would see a flurry of action as the Oil Kings were forced to kill a five minute major as Samuelsson was ejected from the game late in the first. Four goals in the first five minutes of the period including a short handed marker from Oilers draft pick Kristians Pelss made it a 3-3 game early on. But the Oil Kings offense would continue to press as the Oil Kings scoring leader Michael St. Croix scored on the power play just three minutes later to make it a 4-3 lead going into the third.
The Oil Kings then posted three unanswered in the third as Lazar netted his second of the game followed by goals from Ashton Sautner and Mitch Moroz.
St. Croix ends his spectacular regular season with 105 points, 45 goals and 60 Assists all new modern franchise records. Meanwhile goaltender Laurent Brossoit set three new season records of his own as he notched his 42nd win of the season in his 61st game played and a 2.47 goals against average.
