Brandon, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings closed out the 2011-12 Western Hockey League season Saturday night by completing a season ending weekend sweep of the visiting Regina Pats with a 7-2 victory before close to 5,000 fans at Westman Communications Group Place.

The Wheat Kings scored four unanswered second period goals to break open a tight game and never looked back as they closed out the regular season with a record of 39-28-1-4.

The victory, coupled with Kootenay's 3-0 loss in Calgary, earned the Wheat Kings sixth place in the WHL's Eastern Conference and a first round playoff appearance against the Hitmen.

The best of seven WHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series will begin this week with games one and two in Calgary on Thursday and Friday nights.

The series will then shift to Winnipeg's MTS Centre for games three, four and five (if necessary) on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, March 25th, 27th and 29th.

Games six and seven would be played in Calgary on Sunday and Tuesday, April 1st and 3rd.

The Wheat Kings have been forced to play their first round playoff series in Winnipeg due to the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. Tickets to games three and four (March 25th and 27th) will go on sale Monday morning at all Ticketmaster locations or by calling Toll Free 1-855-985-5000.

In Saturday's regular season finale, captain Mark Stone scored twice and set up two others while linemate Brenden Walker added four helpers as the Wheat Kings beat the Pats for the second straight night. Brodie Melnychuk, who was playing in his 318th and final WHL regular season game, also scored two goals for the winners, who led 3-2 and 7-2 at the period breaks. Ryley Miller, Alessio Bertaggia and Darian Dziurzynski rounded out the scoring for Brandon.

Netminder Corbin Boes turned aside 22 of 24 shots for the Wheat Kings, who kicked off the weekend with a 2-1 win in Regina on Friday night.
