Edmonton, AB - The Manitoba Moose have signed Edmonton Oil Kings defenceman Simon Kubicek to a two-year AHL contract, the team announced today.

Kubicek, a Jindrichuv Hradec, Czech Republic product, is coming off his third and final season in the WHL in which he put up career highs in goals (14), assists (27), points (41), penalty minutes (133) and plus/minus rating (+29).

The 6-foot-2, 203-pound rearguard led the WHL in penalty minutes this past season and set an Oil Kings franchise record for most power play goals by a defenceman in a single-season with nine.

He was named to the Central Division's Second All-Star Team.

During the post-season, he added 11 points (3G, 8A) in 19 games, helping the Oil Kings capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup for the third time in modern franchise history.

Prior to joining the Oil Kings ahead of the 2021-22 season, Kubicek played two previous seasons in the WHL with the Seattle Thunderbirds from 2018-20.

Over his three-year WHL career he totaled 96 points (30G, 66A), 244 penalty minutes and a +27 plus/minus rating in 181 games.

Kubicek has twice represented his home country of Czechia at the World Junior Championship competing at both the 2020 and 2021 tournaments where he combined to tally five points (2G, 3A) in nine games.
