Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Oil Kings alumnus Dylan Guenther has been named to Team Canada's roster for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

Guenther, 19, is playing this season with the NHL's Arizona Coyotes where he has racked up 11 points (3G, 8A) in 21 games.

Last season, the Edmonton, AB product helped guide the Oil Kings to their third WHL Championship in modern franchise history after putting up 91 points (45G, 46A) in 59 regular season games and 21 points (13G, 8A) in 16 post-season games.

Upon his graduation, he left the Oil Kings sitting with the seventh most goals (86) and eighth most points (178) in modern franchise history, despite only playing 137 games.

"I'm super excited for it," said Guenther. "It was a bitter taste left in my mouth with last year's tournament being cancelled. It's something you dream of (playing in the World Juniors) and to have it get cancelled and then rescheduled in the summer and not being able to play in it, it felt like there was a barrier there.

"Now to have the opportunity to represent my country on this stage is awesome and with this feeling like really the first World Juniors in quite a while, it's going to be pretty exciting and I can't wait for it."

Guenther was previously named to Team Canada's roster for the cancelled winter edition of the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship and was unable to compete at the reschedules summer edition due to an injury he sustained in last season's WHL Championship Series.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is Friday, December 16 when they play host the Swift Current Broncos at 7:00 P.M.
