Toronto, ON - Ontario Hockey League action heads into the ninth week of the regular season schedule with 25 games beginning tonight through Sunday.
Here's a look at what's going on around the league:
AT THE RINKS:
Goodwill donations accepted in Niagara on Thursday: Goodwill Niagara is having a donation drive this Thursday when the IceDogs host the Erie Otters. For every donation made, IceDogs fans will receive a voucher for a free ticket to the New Year's Eve game against Kitchener. Goodwill will be collecting donations at each entrance of the arena.
Wolves collecting infant food donations on Friday: The Sudbury Wolves will be collecting infant food donations at their home game on Friday against the Peterborough Petes. Fans who bring in donations have a chance to win a signed Wolves jersey!
Storm honour Jeff O'Neill on Saturday: The Guelph Storm will honour Jeff O'Neill's #92 prior to Saturday's game at home to the Kitchener Rangers. O'Neill wore the number from 1992-1995 before graduating to the NHL where went on to play 821 games over 11 seasons with the Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs. #92 will be raised to the rafters of the Sleeman Centre in an on-ice ceremony prior to puck drop. Hamilton vs. Ottawa Weekend: The Bulldogs will be hosting a rally in support of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Saturday's game vs. the Ottawa 67's. There will be Tiger-Cats representation at the game, including their mascot 'Stripes'. Fans are encouraged to wear black and gold Tiger-Cats colours to show their support for Sunday's CFL East Final game in Ottawa.
Greyhounds hold annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday: The Soo Greyhounds will hold their annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday night at the Essar Centre. There'll also be a poutine eating contest during the first intermission with great prizes to be won!
Firebirds host Toy Drive on Saturday: The Flint Firebirds will be holding a Toy Drive on Saturday at home to the Barrie Colts. In partnership with the Toys for Tots organization, fans can bring a new toy to the Firebirds Merchandise Store valued at $10 or more to receive a free bronze level ticket to Saturday's game, compliments of Shaltz Automation.
Spirit host Guns and Hoses Game Saturday Night: The Saginaw Spirit host the ninth annual Guns and Hoses Classic prior to their Saturday night tilt with the Erie Otters. At 5:00pm, the Police and Firefighters will square off in a Battle of the Badges. $13 fundraising tickets are available, with $5 of each ticket sold supporting research into muscle diseases.
Fans can take home free poster in Sarnia on Saturday: Fans in attendance on Saturday night in Sarnia will go home with a specialty 'Movember-themed' signature poster. In conjunction with the giveaway, the entire Sting team will be at Lambton Mall on Monday night (6:30 PM) for an autograph session.
Generals team up with Durham Humane Society on Sunday: Throw the dog a bone! There will be a special guest dropping the puck Sunday night at the General Motors Centre as Joe, an 11 year-old beagle will do the honours. Joe and the rest of the Durham Human Society are also asking that everyone bring a wish list item to the game; for example dry dog and cat food, toys or kitty litter. Help them fill their truck with pet supplies!
Family Fun Day in Saginaw on Sunday: The Spirit battle the Barrie Colts on Sunday afternoon. Sunday is YMCA of Saginaw Family Fun Day. The YMCA welcomes families to the Blue Line Club Carnival of Fun. The 'Y' will be running old-fashioned carnival type games for the whole family to enjoy!
Family Night in Flint on Sunday: The Firebirds host Family Night at home to the Erie Otters on Sunday. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a pair of thunder sticks courtesy of Dort Federal Credit Union. There will be a bounce house, face painters, balloon twisters and a post-game a skate with the players, with rental skates available as well.
COMMUNITY CORNER:
Colts collect 3,607Ibs. of food in Fill the Bus campaign: On Thursday November 12th the Barrie Colts travelled to four local grocery stores as part of the "Fill the Bus" campaign in support of Coach4Food. Six members of the Colts took part as well as team Mascot, Charlie Horse. See photos from the event at barriecolts.com.
Rangers pay Evan a visit: Kitchener Rangers Gustaf Franzen, Jeremy Bracco, Luke Opilka and Jake Henderson paid a visit to seven year-old Evan Leversage, a little boy battling brain cancer who has been informed this upcoming Christmas will be his last. For Evan's story or to make a donation to the Brain Cancer Foundation of Canada, visit braintumour.ca.
IceDogs taking a bite out of bullying: With the launch of their 'JUST STOP IT' anti-bullying campaign last weekend, the Niagara IceDogs have kept the momentum going forward this week visiting several elementary schools with their message. For more on the story visit the IceDogs on Facebook.
Bid on Spitfires Pink in the Rink jerseys until Sunday: Fans can bid on Windsor Spitfires game worn Pink in the Rink jerseys up until Sunday. Proceeds from the jersey auction will go towards raising Breast Cancer awareness. Place your bid here.
TOP RANKED OTTERS' SWEEP WEEKLY CHL AWARDS:
Devin Williams of the Erie Otters is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week and the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 15 after posting a 4-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.74 and save percentage of .938. Up front, the Otters' Dylan Strome also led the OHL in scoring with 10 points in four games including three goals and seven assists to earn CHL Player of the Week honours. With four straight wins, the Otters also moved back up into top spot in the BMO CHL Top-10 Rankings.
2015 BATTLE OF THE BORDER IN SARNIA:
The second annual 'Battle of the Border' Minor Midget Showcase in partnership between the Ontario Hockey League and the High Performance Hockey League wrapped up Sunday following a three-day event at the Sarnia Sports & Entertainment Centre.
The 12-team tournament featured teams from across Ontario, Detroit, and Illinois with players eligible for the 2016 OHL Priority Selection competing before scouts and fans in an 18-game showcase of Minor Midget talent. FULL RECAP

Nick Ritchie makes NHL debut: Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds graduate Nick Ritchie made his NHL debut on Monday, seeing just over 10 minutes of ice in 4-1 Anaheim Ducks victory over Carolina. The former long-time Peterborough Petes winger has nine goals, three assists and 12 points through his first 12 AHL games with the San Diego Gulls this season. Ritchie played in 212 career OHL regular season games from 2011-15, scoring 102 goals, 108 assists and 210 points.
Adam Pelech makes NHL debut: Erie Otters graduate Adam Pelech suited up in his first NHL game last Friday, seeing just over 13 minutes of ice in a 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks. The New York Islanders rearguard skated with the Otters from 2010-14, appearing in 228 regular season games to record 21 goals, 108 assists and 129 points with a plus/minus rating of plus-30.
Michael Leighton becomes 13th goalie in AHL history to win 200 games: Former Windsor Spitfires goaltender Michael Leighton has become the 13th goalie in American Hockey League history to record 200 career wins. Originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1999, Leighton has appeared in 406 regular-season AHL games over his 15-year professional career, posting a record of 200-159-34 with Norfolk, Rochester, Portland, Philadelphia/Adirondack, Albany and Rockford. His 42 shutouts are second only to Johnny Bower (45) in AHL history. The Petrolia, ON, native played for the Spitfires from 1998-2001.

A.J. Jenks named ECHL Player of the Week: Plymouth Whalers graduate A.J. Jenks has been named the ECHL Player of the Week after recording four goals, three assists and seven points with the Toledo Walleye, the ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. Guelph Storm graduate Adam Comrie finished as a runner-up in Player of the Week considerations. Jenks is a former fourth round draft pick of the Florida Panthers in 2008 who skated with the Whalers from 2006-10, winning an OHL Championship with Plymouth in 2007.

Having both lost to the Erie Otters last weekend, the London Knights and the Kitchener Rangers try and get back on track in their first meeting of the season. Both clubs have won eight of their last 10 contests as London's Mitch Marner enters action on a 10-game point streak while sidekick Christian Dvorak has goals in each of his last five outings. The Rangers enter the weekend tied with Barrie for the least goals allowed in the league this season with 51.
Niagara IceDogs (10-8-1-0) vs. Sarnia Sting (11-7-2-0)
Saturday November 21 at Sarnia
After a slow start, the Niagara IceDogs have begun to turn things around. Josh Ho-Sang leads a dangerous offence with 28 points (7-21--28) in 19 games as the Dogs have won seven of their last 10. The 11-7-2-0 Sting feature a balanced scoring attack with nine players having recorded over 10 points this season. Sarnia looks to settle the score after losing to Niagara 6-2 back on October 30th.
