OHL 20 in 20 Season Preview: Kingston Frontenacs
Published on September 16, 2021 under Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release
The Kingston Frontenacs are ready to hit the ground running with a younger squad and a blend of size, skill, competitiveness, and uniqueness both up front and on the back end. Here's a look at what to expect under new head coach Luca Caputi.
"We want to talk about owning the puck and having a mentality that winning the day is the most important part. Obviously it's not going to be easy every day, but we have to come to the rink as a person and as a team, with the mentality that we have to win that day - whether it's a practice day, a development day or a game day. If we can do that more often than not we believe we put ourselves in a position to succeed and in a position to have home ice advantage in the playoffs, which is something we want to be fighting for in the end. We believe as a team, as individuals, how we conduct ourselves goes a long way with what a product looks like on a Friday night here at Leon's Centre." - Luca Caputi
2019-20 Record: 19-39-2-2, 42 points (Fifth in East Division)
Head Coach: Luca Caputi (First Season)
Opening Game: Friday, Oct. 8 vs. Ottawa
X-FACTORS:
Shane Wright
When the Kingston Frontenacs hit the ice this season, all eyes will be on exceptional talent Shane Wright. With a 66-point rookie output and an impressive U18s gold medal performance in the rear view, the 17-year-old is ready to lead the way as a huge piece of a young, up-and-coming group. Equipped with elite talent, hockey IQ, work ethic and leadership qualities both on and off the ice, the stage is set for the top 2022 NHL Draft target to have another show-stopping year atop the League.
Martin Chromiak
Martin Chromiak will look to pick up where he left off, clicking with Wright on the Fronts' top line on the heels of his impressive 33-point showing in 2019-20. With an elite shot, ability to make creative plays off the rush and some AHL experience under his belt, the highly talented L.A. Kings prospect is also poised for another strong campaign.
Jordan Frasca
Overage forward Jordan Frasca is set to be another strong point for the Frontenacs this season. The veteran skater has received praise for his growth on and off the ice, a dedication that sets the tone for the whole team, and a positive mindset. Frasca, currently skating with the Toronto Maple Leafs' development camp, will be an important part of the club's leadership team and is on the mend of having a big season to top off his OHL career.
Jordan Frasca is currently participating in the @MapleLeafs Development Camp.
