Victoria Generals News Release
Dallas, TX - Stuart Springer threw a seven inning no-hitter, striking out 2 batters and walking 1. This marks the first no hitter in the Generals 2014 season, and the second all time. The Victoria Generals would go on to take game one of the doubleheader against the Texas Marshals, 3-0.
The Generals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, thanks in part to a couple defensive miscues by the Marshals. Cedric Vallieres reached base on a single, moved to third on an error, and scored on a Kyle Danford sacrifice fly.
Pedro Barrios and Justin Pacchioli singled and came around to score in the fifth inning. Brian Portelli drove both of them in on a double, stretching the score to 3-0.
Marshals Return the Favor
The Generals struggled early in game two of their double header with the Texas Marshals.
Bryce Welborn, the losing pitcher, allowed 7 runs on six hits and struck out 1 batter. The winning pitcher, Keaton Brewer, pitched a complete game and only allowed 3 hits.
The Marshals struck in the 1st inning after Chase Daughdrill was hit with a pitch. Carlos Contreras would drive him home later with a RBI single. Carlos Vargas would bring home Carson Shaddy before the inning came to a close.
In the second, Chase Daughdrill would score his second run in the game after Oliver Christensen hit a RBI single. Christensen would later score on a pass ball, giving the Marshals 2 runs in the second.
The 4th inning was a big one for the Marshals, as they scored 3 runs. The runs were all unearned by Mason Mantle, Carlos Contreras, and Carson Shaddy.
Bryce Welborn was replaced by Troy Ward in the 4th inning.
Chase Daughdrill would put the icing on the cake in the 6th inning with an unearned run.
Ward allowed 1 run on 1 hit and 0 strikeouts.
The Generals continue their road trip and look to bounce back from the 8-0 loss. They will take on the East Texas Pump Jacks for a 7:05 start.
