Strykers Edge Marshals 2-1
The Woodlands Strykers edged by the Texas Marshals by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday night in Dallas in game one of a three-game series. Spence Rahm's two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning was the difference in the ballgame as it put the Strykers out in front for good.
Jack Finnegan picked up the win for the Strykers as he tossed 7.1 innings, allowing just one run on six hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.
The Marshals lone run of the ballgame came in the top of the second inning as Mason Mantle drilled a two-out RBI double to the left-centerfield gap to score Carlos Vargas.
Austin Brooks took the loss despite pitching well. He allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Collin Sherrod tossed the final two innings for the Marshals, striking out five of the six batters he faced without allowing a hit.
Gandy Stubblefield came on in relief of Finnegan with runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, but escaped the jam. He went on to strikeout the side in the ninth to record the save.
Carlos Vargas and Oliver Christensen each had two hits for the Marshals in the ballgame.
With the loss, the Marshals fall to 13-26 overall on the season and 5-7 in the second-half. The Strykers improve to 14-26 overall and 4-6 in the second-half.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday for an afternoon doubleheader starting at 5:00pm at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.
