Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Seattle Mariners have transferred right-handed pitcher Ogui Diaz from the Everett AquaSox to the Single-A Advanced High Desert Mavericks, effective Thursday, Sept. 2
Diaz has gone 4-3 with a 5.12 ERA in 17 appearances for the Sox this season, including four starts. Since making the move into the starting rotation Aug. 13, Diaz has gone 1-1 with a 1.89 ERA while lasting a career-high 5.0 innings three times. He earned his first win as a starting pitcher in his last outing with the Frogs Aug. 29, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings and issuing no walks.
The Mariners signed Diaz out of the Dominican Republic in 2005 as an infielder, and he made his professional debut as a shortstop for the AquaSox in 2006. After four seasons, two with the Sox, of playing the infield, Diaz was converted to a pitcher in 2009 and has a career record of 5-3 with a 4.64 ERA.
The AquaSox play a doubleheader tonight against the Vancouver Canadians to wrap up their 2010 regular season home schedule, with two consecutive seven-inning games beginning at 6:05 p.m. After the final three games of the season on the road this weekend, the Sox will compete in Game 1 of the NWL Divisional Playoffs on Monday, Sept. 6, in Vancouver.
Game 2 will be at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Everett Memorial Stadium. If a Game 3 is necessary, it will be played in Everett at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
