Wilson Tobs News Release
WILSON, N.C - The Wilson Tobs snapped a three-game losing streak by scoring five runs in the second inning and smothered the visiting Petersburg Generals, 11-3 in front of 1,275 fans on Thursday night at Historic Fleming Stadium.
Wilson (14-24, 5-5) came to bat against Alex Caravella (L, 3-2) in a scoreless game in the second inning and put up five runs on three hits. Zack Lee delivered the big blow of the inning for the Tobs with a two-run double to left field.
However, the offensive show was not finish as the Tobacconists added a trio of runs as Trey Whaley hammered a ball over the wall in left field for a three-run home run.
Petersburg (3-8, 17-22) had its best shot offensively in the second innings as they loaded the bases against Wilson starter, Kevin Berry (W, 2-0) but could not score as the Tobs coasted to the 11-3 victory.
Wilson returns to action on Friday afternoon at 5:00 for a suspended-game doubleheader at Edenton. The Tobs return to Historic Fleming Stadium on Saturday night when they host the Fayetteville SwampDogs at 7:05.
The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
