Blowfish Fall to Owls; Return Home Friday

FOREST CITY, N.C.- The Columbia Blowfish lost to the Forest City Owls Thursday night 2-0 in Coastal Plain League play. The loss drops the Blowfish second half record to 4-3.

The Owls got things started in the bottom of the first with a single run against Blowfish starter Wyatt Brown. Brown went seven innings giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out six. In the first the Owls got on the board on an Ale Close sacrifice fly to score Gunnar Heidt. The Owls added their second run in the third when Alex Close grounded out to third to score Bryan Aanderud.

The Blowfish could only muster five hits against the Owls pitching staff Thursday night. Nick Lomascolo started for the Owls and got the win going six innings giving up just three hits while striking out five. Jason Driver, Hunter Privette and Jake Padgett all pitched a scoreless inning each.

The Blowfish return to Historic Capital City Stadium Friday night against the Florence RedWolves. First pitch is set for 7:05 and tickets are available at blowfishbaseball.com or by calling 254-FISH.

The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
