Asheville Tourists News Release

Lexington, KY--On Monday night the Asheville Tourists went cold at the plate in a 3-1 loss against the Lexington Legends. The Tourists managed only two hits in the game; a season low.

Even though the hits weren't coming, Asheville was patient and drew several walks. Starting pitcher Matt Carasiti kept the Tourists in the game with 5.1 excellent innings pitched. Carasiti suffered the tough luck loss, allowing just one earned run. The right-hander struck out six and did not walk a single Legends hitter.

Asheville loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth inning on a hit-by-pitch, followed by a bunt single, then a walk. After back-to-back strikeouts, Francisco Sosa walked to give the Tourists a 1-0 lead.

Lexington answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Ethan Chapman reached second to begin the inning on one of the three Tourists errors in the game. Two batters later, Fred Ford singled up the middle to score Chapman. After a Michael Antonio double moved Ford to third, Humberto Arteaga singled in the go-ahead run against a drawn in Tourists infield. The Legends added one more in the seventh when Bubba Starling singled home Terrance Gore.

The Tourists put together a two-out rally in the top of the eighth. Rosell Herrera walked and Tom Murphy reached on an error. After both runners advanced on a wild pitch, Derek Jones walked to load the bases. Sosa came to the plate once again but this time he grounded out to end the threat. Asheville went 0-for-4 with the bases loaded and are just 7-for-47 with the bags juiced this season; a .149 batting average.

Tuesday night will feature Game Two of this three game series between Asheville and Lexington. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
