
Suns Score Three in Ninth to Down Grasshoppers

HAGERSTOWN, M.D. - The Hagerstown Suns (26-15) scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to erase a 4-2 deficit and defeat the Greensboro Grasshoppers (17-26) 5-4. It was the Suns fourth win in five tries against Greensboro and their third straight win at home.
With runners on second and third and one out in the bottom of the ninth, DH Khayyan Norfork doubled home catcher Craig Manuel and SS Stephen Perez to tie the game at 4-4. Left fielder Wander Ramos came up and laid down a suicide squeeze which scored Norfork to give the Suns the 5-4 victory.
Greensboro started the scoring off in the third inning. Right fielder Cody Keefer led the inning off with a walk. With two outs LF Cameron Flynn singled which advanced Keefer to third. Second baseman Anthony Gomez then singled home Keefer to put the Grasshoppers up 1-0.
The Grasshoppers added to their lead in the sixth inning. With one out in the frame 3B Yordy Cabrera doubled to right center field. Cabrera advanced to third on a single by 1B Viosergy Rosa. Center fielder Jesus Solorzano's sacrifice fly brought home Cabrera to make it 2-0 Greensboro. Designated hitter Matt Juengel then doubled to center which scored Rosa to make it 3-0 Grasshoppers.
Hagerstown got in the board in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Right fielder Brandon Miller singled home 1B Shawn Pleffner to make it 3-1 Greensboro. The RBI was Miller's 26th on the season.
Greensboro tacked on their final run in the seventh inning. Catcher Mike Vaughn walked to start the inning. After advancing to second on a groundout by SS Yeison Hernandez, Vaughn got to third on a wild pitch by Chris McKenzie. Vaughn scored on a single by LF Cameron Flynn to make it 4-1 Greensboro.
Hagerstown got one back in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by RF Brandon Miller which scored 1B Shawn Pleffner. That run put the Suns in a position to rally for the win in the bottom of the ninth.
LHP Bryan Harper (3-0) got the win in relief for Hagerstown. Harper pitched two shutout innings with one strikeout and zero walks. RHP Blake Logan (1-3) took the loss for Greensboro. Logan went 0.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one. It was the fourth blown save on the season for Logan.
The Suns conclude their series against the Grasshoppers on Wednesday, May 22. Hagerstown will send LHP Kylin Turnbull (2-2) to the mound for his fifth start of the season. He will square off against RHP Ramon Del Orbe (1-3) for the Grasshoppers. First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 a.m.
