Offense Leads Bees into Break

(Cedar Rapids-IA)- The Burlington Bees' offense cranked out 13 runs on 19 hits, finishing the first half of the season with a 13-3 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Bees jumped on the board first, when Kody Eaves grounded into a double play, scoring Erick Salcedo, putting the Bees on top 1-0 in the third inning.

Erick Salcedo gave the Bees a 2-0 lead on a single scoring Angel Rosa. The Bees' offense went on to score five more in the inning, taking a 7-0 lead, highlighted by a Kody Eaves two run double.

Cedar Rapids made it a four run game at 7-3, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Bees' offense went to work again in the eighth inning, scoring four runs on a RBI triple by Erick Salcedo, a RBI single by Kody Eaves, a sacrifice fly by Mike Fish and capped the inning off with an Eric Aguilera double scoring Chad Hinshaw, extending the Bees' lead to 11-3.

Kody Eaves added an exclamation point in the ninth, socking his seventh home run of the season, a two run shot, off the foul pole in right.

Bees' starter Victor Alcantara (4-3) earned the win while Cedar Rapids' starter, Ethan Mildren (2-4), was charged with the loss.
