
Offense Explodes in Series Finale

(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the New Britain Bees 12-3 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four-game set at Bethpage Ballpark.
New Britain opened the scoring in the third inning as Kevin Rivers' RBI on a fielder's choice gave the Bees a 1-0 advantage. Long Island took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple from Anthony Vega and RBI singles from Dan Lyons and Tyler Colvin.
In the fourth, the Bees tied the game at three with RBI singles from James Skelton and Jonathan Roof.
The Ducks jumped back ahead 8-3 with five runs in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Vega was hit by a pitch to bring in a run. Fehlandt Lentini drove in two with a single, Lyons picked up an RBI single, and Ruben Gotay plated a run with a sacrifice fly.
Lentini knocked in his third run of the afternoon in the seventh, as the Ducks scored three runs to take a 10-3 lead. Gotay and Colvin knocked in the other two runs of the inning with an RBI single and sacrifice fly, respectively. Lentini struck again with an RBI single in the eighth, giving the Ducks a 12-3 advantage.
Patrick Crider (2-0) was the winning pitcher after throwing a scoreless sixth inning. Shawn Haviland (1-1) took the loss as the New Britain starter surrendered six runs on seven hits and four walks over five and one-third innings. Ducks starter Mark Blackmar did not factor into the decision but gave up three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks over five innings.
Lentini led the way for the Ducks, going 3-for-6 with four RBI. Matt Wessinger was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and added two walks as well. Vega added two extra-base hits, while driving in two runs and scoring three.
The Ducks hit the road on Tuesday night to open a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. Long Island returns home on Friday, June 3 to begin a three-game set against the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Water Bottles, courtesy of Motorola. It's also Fowl Pole, Pizza Hut K-Man, and OK Petroleum Friday.
