York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.) - Jorge Martinez continued his early season mastery as the York Revolution took a 5-2 Sunday afternoon game from the Somerset Patriots at PeoplesBank Park. The win is the fifth in six games on the homestand for the Revs (22-15) while the Patriots (21-16) drop their fifth in the last six.

Martinez (3-2) and his off-speed arsenal were locked in from the get-go, facing the minimum through the first three innings and at one point retiring eight in a row and 11 of 12. In all, he finished with 6.2 shutout innings, giving up just two hits and two walks while striking out two. Martinez has now strung together 18 straight scoreless innings dating back to his May 18 start at Lancaster.

Scott McGregor (2-4) took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in 6.1 innings, and Mike DeMark came on in a jam in the ninth to get the final two outs and notch his league-leading 12th save.

York broke the ice in the bottom of the third inning as Alfredo Marte and Josh Wilson led off with singles. Joel Guzman then banged a double off the wall in straightaway center, scoring Marte and sending Wilson to third. Wilson eventually came home on a Telvin Nash sac fly to make it 2-0.

Keith Castillo added to the fun in the fourth by lifting a flyball into the jet stream in left center, and the ball carried all the way to the PeoplesBank Park playground for his second home run of the season, this of the solo variety that made it 3-0 for York.

Nash extended his season-high hitting streak to nine games by lacing a two-out double off the Arch Nemesis in the fifth. Newcomer Charley Thurber made a splash in his first Revolution game, grounding a single up the middle to score Nash and put his new club up 4-0.

York tacked on another when Wilson scored on a wild pitch in the seventh.

Somerset broke up the shutout in the top of the eighth when Carlos Guzman knocked a double off the top of the Nemesis and later scored on a Darwin Perez groundout. The Patriots then made it interesting in the top of the ninth, plating one run on a Matt Fields RBI single and loading the bases with one out. DeMark came on to put out the fire though, getting Guzman to pop out and Trayvon Robinson to ground out to put it in the books.

Wilson led the way for York, going 2-for-4 with two runs. Marte also notched two hits, including a leadoff double in the first for the second straight game.

After Martinez made his exit, Frank Gailey, Julio DePaula, Ty'Relle Harris, and DeMark combined to keep the Patriot hitters in check the rest of the way. Revs pitching scattered six hits, five of them singles, over the course of the afternoon.

Notes: Andres Perez cracked a one-out double in the second for his 500th hit with the Revs, the first to reach the mark in franchise history. Perez's next hit will be his 1,000th as a professional. York's Matt Neil (1-0, 5.21) will take the hill against Somerset's Shaun Garceau (team debut) at a Memorial Day special time of 5:00 p.m. at PeoplesBank Park. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 4:40 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Monday's festivities include a Memorial Day salute to veterans. All active military personnel and veterans will receive a free ticket and meal voucher. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. and tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
