Lake Erie Crushers News Release
FLORENCE, KY. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, got another strong showing from their offense as they pounded out 13 hits en route to a 7-5 win over the Florence Freedom on Saturday night.
Florence starter Tyler Gibson (3-3) allowed seven runs, three of which were earned over six innings of work. The hit parade for the Crushers began in the second inning with a single by Zach Racusin. Later in the inning with runners on the corners, Dalton Wheat singled to give the Crushers a 1-0 lead. Nick Roark then delivered a two-run triple, making it 3-0.
The Freedom got a run in the fourth off of Lake Erie starter Justin Sinibaldi (1-2). An RBI single by Jordan Brower cut the Crushers lead to 3-1.
In the fifth inning with two outs, the Crushers produced three consecutive singles from Dane Hutcheon, Joel McKeithan, and eventually Cody Lenahan. That made it 4-1 Crushers.
The Freedom cut into the Lake Erie lead again in the sixth inning when Brower doubled home a pair of runs. With the tying run in scoring position, Sinibaldi was able to get out of trouble after a nice play by McKeithan at short. Sinibaldi went a season-high six innings while allowing three runs on seven hits.
Lake Erie answered back in the seventh inning for the second straight night. A leadoff single from Aaron Hill was followed by a double from Hutcheon. McKeithan kept the line moving with a two-run double and the Crushers led 6-3. Bryan DeLaRosa would later knock in McKeithan and the Lake Erie lead grew to 7-3.
Hutcheon finished the game, 4-5 with two runs scored and McKeithan also tallied three hits in the win. The Crushers have recorded 24 hits through the first two games.
Florence tacked on a run in the home half of the inning against Branden Nunn but nothing more. Louis Cohen was brought in to record the six out save. After a scoreless eighth, he allowed a home run to John Price Jr. but he was able to retire the side after that. That was the second save of the year for Cohen.
Lake Erie (38-33) will go for the sweep tomorrow. The Florence Freedom drop to 35-36 with the loss. Game three is set for a 2:35 PM start time.
