TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(31-39) offense couldn't get on track as they drop their eighth straight game, tonight to the Normal Cornbelters(36-32) by a final score of 15-1.
Normal scored in the first inning as a two out rally was capped off by an Andrew Godbold RBI single. In the second, Chris Iriart hit a solo homer to double the Cornbelter advantage. After a scoreless third, Normal sent 10 men to the plate in the third. Iriart hit his second solo blast of the game, Santiago Chirino drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Derek Loveless hit a two-run double, and Justin Fletcher knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly, making it 7-0.
Santiago Chirino added another run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, then Normal put together another huge inning in the eighth, scoring seven runs. Sean Hurley hit a two-run homer, James Davison drove in two with a double, Chirino hit a two-run homer, and Hurley capped off the inning with an RBI double to make it 15-0. In the bottom of the inning, Connor Oliver led off by reaching on an error then Steve Lohr singled to move him to third. Noah McGowan plated Traverse City's lone run on a groundout.
Normal's Nicholas Bozman, who took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, earns the win to improve to 5-0 on the season. He went eight innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out seven. Luke DeVenney is dealt the loss, going three and a third innings, and allowing seven runs on 10 hits and two walks. He falls to 0-3 on the season.
On Sunday night, the Beach Bums and Normal Cornbelters get together for the final time this season to close out this weekend's three-game set. Jacinto Garcia takes the hill for Normal while Ken Knudsen makes his first start of the season for the Beach Bums.
