May 8, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
Irvine, CA(May 6, 2014) - The Orange County Blues are set to battle the Charlotte Eagles this Thursday, May 8th at 7:30 PM P.T. at Anteater Stadium, located on the campus of University Of California, Irvine.
The Charlotte Eagles are currently in the midst of a West Coast road trip, playing at Arizona United on Friday night and at LA Galaxy II on Monday night. Now they cross the Orange Curtain from LA to Orange County, and with Monday's 2-1 loss to LA still fresh in their minds, the Eagles are targeting the Orange County Blues for a signature West Coast win.
Aiming to recover from their fall to Sacramento Republic FC on the road, the Blues are back in Irvine and ready to clinch a win at home in front of their fans. The squad is hoping for a big turnout on Thursday, and encourage all of Orange County to come out and support.
The Charlotte Eagles roster includes a few notable veterans. Midfielder Jorge Herrera has been with the Eagles for seven seasons, and midfielder Wells Thompson joined Charlotte this season after a six year career in Major League Soccer. Charlotte also has a young forward named Guiseppe Gentile, who's on loan from the Chicago Fire.
For Orange County, keep an eye on Jiovanni Santana and Allan Russell. Russell and Santana received Honorable Mentions for their performance in week 7 against Sacramento; Santana, for his far post cross assist to Russell, who utilized the assist to score with the header. Defender Rauwshan McKenzie, on loan from the Portland Timbers, was named to the USL PRO Team of the Week for his performance on defense.
In addition, three Blues players have played for Charlotte in previous years. Gibson Bardsley was with the team in 2011, and Stephen Okai and William Prado were with Charlotte last season, which ended with the Eagles as runner ups to USL PRO Champion Orlando City.
