Battery Set for Wilmington Hammerheads - Kick for a Cure Celebration

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery (2-2-4) takes on the Wilmington Hammerheads (1-1-2) this Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island; gates open at 6:00 PM with kick off set for 7:30 PM ($10 - $18, 971-4625 / charlestonbattery.com). The Battery enters the game on the back of a pair of road wins last weekend; Charleston defeated the Harrisburg City Islanders 4-0 and the Dayton Dutch Lions 2-0. Saturday's match will be broadcast live on Sports Radio 1450 AM.

Saturday's game is the Charleston Battery's annual Kick for a Cure celebration to benefit the Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen presented by McLaughlin Smoak and Clarke Benefits.

A Battery Pink Ticket that includes one East Box Seat and a Pink Charleston Battery koozie for the match are on sale now for only $11! $3 from each Battery Pink Ticket will be donated directly to the Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen.

The Charleston Battery players will be wearing their special Nike Pink jerseys during the match; the game-worn jerseys will be autographed by each player and then auctioned with 100% of the proceeds to benefit the Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. In 2013 the Battery played the Wilmington Hammerheads twice winning the home fixture by a score of four goals to two on May 11 then losing 2-1 in the return game in Wilmington on August 2.

The Wilmington Hammerheads missed the playoffs in 2013 a year after advancing to the 2012 Championship game where it lost 1-0 to the Charleston Battery.

Wilmington 's last match was a 0-0 tie versus the Rochester Rhinos in a game played in Wilmington last Saturday night.

Charleston Battery goalkeeper Odisnel Cooper was named USL PRO Player of the Week after he recorded a pair of shutouts in the Battery's two road wins last weekend.

Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser will be without the services of Omar Salgado, Marlon Ramirez and Jackson Farmer on Saturday; all three players have been recalled by Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps.
