May 8, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Dayton Dutch Lions News Release
Dayton Oh, May 8 2014 - The Dayton Dutch Lions FC will playing the LA Galaxy II this Saturday at 7.00pm in DOC Stadium, the new soccer complex of the club for both the Men's professional team, Women's team and Youth Academy. Dr. S. Gupta of Dayton Outpatient Center (DOC), who made the field possible, and former (2x) Best Soccer Player of the World Ruud Gullit will do the kick-off of the game.
This week the final work was done to complete the new artificial turf field in the stadium. The opening should bring some extra attendance that the team needs after two losses at home. After losing against 2013 regular season champions the Richmond Kickers (5-1), the Lions lost again last Sunday against Charleston Battery with 2-0. Due to the result the team dropped from 3rd place to 8th place and needs a good result against the reserve team of the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer. The LA Galaxy are currently in 2nd position with 17 points out of 8 games.
Head Coach Sid van Druenen commented on the game: "We are all very excited about this game. Hosting the team currently in first place at our brand new home field is definitely something to look out for. Despite the loss last weekend I think we played a good first half and we will be building on that with the goal to get the win at our first game at the DOC stadium."
Besides the game and the presence of Ruud Gullit, the evening will feature several other exciting events. The Dutch Lions will host a toy and book drive benefitting Dayton Children's Hospital and will recognize three Miracle Families from the hospital at halftime. Any fan who donates will receive $2 off the price of admission and can take part in special kid related activities that will be on site for our School Night.
