O\'Ree To Raise Funds For Douglass Theatre

Pioneer Willie O'Ree, the first black to play in the National Hockey League, will help a Macon institution in it's fund raising efforts.

O'Ree, who broke the NHL's color barrier with the Boston Bruins in 1958 will be visitng Macon for four days starting Thursday January 9th. That night, O'Ree and all the Trax players will be on hand at a public reception to benefit the Douglass Theatre. The reception will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Douglass Theatre. The program will include a video look at O'Ree's career as well as a brief speech and question and answer session.

After the formal program, O'Ree and the rest of the Trax, will be available for photographs and autographs in the theatre annex. Light refreshments will be served. The donation for the reception is five dollars, which will go to the Douglass Theatre.

The Trax resume their six game road trip Friday in Orlando and Saturday in Knoxville. The next home game will be Saturday January 11th, at 7:30 p.m with O'Ree on hand.

Every Monday night the Trax broadcast their hour long coach's radio show live from Locos Deli & Pub at 6 p.m. The Hockey Happy Hour, and all Trax games, can be heard on the Trax radio network, WLCG AM 1280, WRNC AM 1670, WVMG AM 1440 and WVMG 96.7 FM.
