NY and B-Mets Join Forces with Fans to Support Victims of Tragedy
April 6, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
In an effort to raise needed funds for the families and survivors of the
shooting last week at the American Civic Association in Binghamton
that resulted in the deaths of 13 innocent victims, the B-Mets plan a trio
of efforts designed to complement other community initiatives.
At tonight's Welcome Home Dinner at the Binghamton Regency
hotel, the team will offer its new white, sleeveless home jersey worn by
the 2009 B-Mets for sale at $100 each. All proceeds from this endeavor
will go toward an appropriate charitable fund related to supporting
the victims' families. If these jerseys sell out, the team projects more
than a $3,000 head start.
When the B-Mets open the season at home on Thursday night, April
16th, the ballclub encourages all fans in attendance to make a
donation, large or small, to benefit this worthy cause. The Binghamton
Mets hope the generosity of its fans amounts to the significant
contribution the team plans to give or more. In addition, the New York
Mets intend to make a contribution.
Fans can also do their part by participating in the team's "Rally for
Your Cause" ticket fundraising program. Now in its second year, the
"Rally for Your Cause" vouchers allow fans to purchase tickets to any of
the B-Mets seven April home games at the discounted rate of $4. Of
every $4 ticket sold through the program, the B-Mets donate $2 or half
of the ticket proceeds back to the non-profit cause of the fans'
choice. The fan simply writes in the organization (i.e. Catholic Charities,
American Civic Assoc., etc.) he wishes the proceeds to benefit.
"Our community has suffered an unspeakable loss. We want to do
our part not only to remember those lost but to help all of those
affected," said team general manager Scott Brown. "The Binghamton
Mets and NYSEG Stadium represent entities that bring our citizens
together for common interests. We hope to pull together our friends &
neighbors to heal and to raise money."
