
NWSL Announces Washington Spirit 2017 Regular Season Schedule

BOYDS, MD (Mar. 1, 2017) - The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced today the schedule for the 2017 NWSL season, including the Spirit's twelve home games at Maureen Hendricks Field at the Maryland SoccerPlex. The Spirit will host and visit every team in the league at least once, play six teams three times overall, but will only face Seattle Reign FC, Chicago Red Stars, and FC Kansas City twice.
The NWSL consists of 10 teams, with each team playing 24 regular season games in 2017 - 12 home and 12 away. The 2017 NWSL regular season runs from April 15 until September 30, with playoffs in October. The 24-game slate is tied for the most regular-season games in NWSL history and has been geared to be the most fan-friendly schedule the league has ever produced with no team playing more than two midweek matches and each club playing 11 of their 12 home games during weekends.
Spirit fans will enjoy 11 Saturday games out of their 12 total, splitting between afternoon and evening start times depending on television schedules. The Spirit has made the playoffs the last three seasons, tied for the league record, and has averaged over 3,700 fans per game at the SoccerPlex in its first four seasons.
The Spirit's home opener will be on Saturday, April 15 agains t North Carolina Courage. The team will open road play on the following Saturday, April 22 against Orlando Pride in their first regular season match in the new Orlando City Stadium.
Tickets for the Spirit's four preseason games and the season opener are on sale now at tickets.washingtonspirit.com . Group ticket packages are available for all home games by calling 301-591-0927. Single game tickets will go on sale Tuesday, March 7 at 12 noon.
