NWSL Announces 2017 Schedule
March 1, 2017 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release
CHICAGO - The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) unveiled today the complete 2017 regular-season schedule for its historic fifth campaign, which kicks off on the weekend of April 15-16 and concludes on September 30.
The complete 2017 NWSL Schedule can be found here: http://nwsl.us/2mblYTL
The NWSL will play a 24-game regular-season schedule, with each team playing 12 home and 12 away games while competing in a single table.
Fans across the country will be able to watch the NWSL Game of the Week on Lifetime every Saturday, which includes a 30-minute pregame show prior to each broadcast. In addition, NWSL Media - the league's joint venture with A+E Networks - will produce live streams of all matches in high definition on a soon to be announced platform, and launch a redesigned website and new NWSL app on iOS and Android.
The 24-game slate is tied for the most regular-season games in NWSL history and has been geared to be the most fan-friendly schedule the league has ever produced with no team playing more than two midweek matches and each club playing 11 of their 12 home games during weekends.
Rivalries, regional travel and competitive parity were all taken into account as each team will play three games against six opponents and meet the other three teams twice. Each club will host every other team in the league at least once.
The NWSL will observe international FIFA dates three times during the 2017 season as players return to their National Teams to compete during the weekends of June 10-11, July 29-30 and Sept. 16-17. This is designed to ensure the league's substantial and growing pool of international talent will be available for every match and allow fans to experience the best competition and highest level of women's professional soccer across the globe.
There will be no extended breaks during the 2017 season as there were during the two previous seasons to accommodate participation of players from the league in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The playoffs will commence after the 2017 regular season concludes on September 30. Complete playoff details will be announced at a later date.
