
Nuts Club Six Extra Base Hits in 14-7 Win

Adelanto, CA. - Behind a season-high 14 runs, the Nuts defeated the Mavericks 14-7 on Friday night at Heritage Field.
All 14 runs for the Nuts (4-5; 27-52) came in the first five innings. Rosell Herrera clubbed three doubles in his first four at-bats and finished 4-for-6 with three runs, a RBI and two diving catches defensively at shortstop.
Things got off to a great start for the Nuts. On the first pitch of the game, Chris O'Dowd ripped a single into right field against Mavs (5-4; 39-40) starter Brett Shankin (L, 3-2). After Herrera's first double Will Swanner delivered a two-run single to put the Nuts up early.
Shankin finished after three innings, nine hits and seven runs while walking none and striking out one.
Matt Flemer (W, 7-5) was dominant early retiring the first seven hitters he faced. He struck out four of the first five batters and finished with a season-high tying seven K's. The first hit Flemer gave up was a one-out solo home run in the third by Travis Witherspoon. Flemer worked six innings, allowed four hits and three runs while walking one.
Every starter had at least one run scored or one RBI for the Nuts.
The third-game of the four-game set will have lefty Ryan Carpenter on the mound for the Nuts. Righty David Holman will toss for the Mavs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
