Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Conrad Gregor tallied three hits to extend his hitting streak to 16 games in the JetHawks 7-4 loss to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Saturday night at The Hangar.
Gregor's streak is not only the longest of the season for the JetHawks but is also tied for the longest in the California League this season. His first hit came in his first at-bat. With Chan Moon at second, Gregor blooped a ball over third base. Gabriel Quintana chased it down and threw to the plate to get Moon and prevent Lancaster from getting on the board.
Lake Elsinore (45-35) answered with two runs in the second inning. Corey Adamson hit the first of two triples in the game to drive in a run and Benji Gonzalez later followed with an RBI hit.
The JetHawks (48-32) tied the game with runs in the second and third innings. Rio Ruiz doubled to lead off the second and scored on a Dan Gulbransen hit. Gregor doubled in his second at-bat and scored on a Brandon Meredith single.
Starter Kyle Westwood (5-5) was unable to keep the game tied. Adamson tripled again in the fourth and scored on a Rio Ruiz throwing error. In the fifth, Lake Elsinore tallied five consecutive hits and five runs to chase Westwood from the game.
Westwood finished with seven runs (six earned) on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Relievers Juan Minaya (2 2/3 innings) and Zach Morton (two innings) kept the JetHawks in the game by combining to allow three hits over 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Brandon Meredith blasted his seventh home run of the year, a two-run shot, in the fifth inning to make the score 7-4 but Lancaster was unable to score the rest of the way.
Joe Ross (8-4) allowed 11 over 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Tayron Guerrero pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his second save.
The series and the homestand concludes on Sunday at The Hangar. Gonzalo Sanudo will start against Bryan Rodriguez. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
The first 250 kids in attendance ages 12 and under will receive a JetHawks Baseball Glove courtesy of Reflections Sports Collectibles.
