San Jose Giants News Release
SAN JOSE - Giants leadoff hitter Jesus Galindo went 5-for-5, including a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, to lift San Jose to a 7-5 victory over the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday evening. In front of a capacity crowd of 4,667 at Municipal Stadium, the Giants earned their second straight win in the series.
Galindo (5-for-5, 3B, RBI) collected four singles and a triple as part of his perfect evening at the plate. The five hits tied a San Jose Giants single-game record. He also scored four runs. Chuckie Jones (3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) added three hits for San Jose while Ydwin Villegas (2-for-4, 2B, 3B) tripled in the bottom of the eighth before scoring the tiebreaking run.
The Giants enjoyed the lead throughout the contest until Visalia's Brandon Jacobs connected for a game-tying two-run home run in the top of the eighth. With the score deadlocked 5-5, Villegas began the decisive rally in the bottom of the eighth when he smacked a one-out triple into the right center field gap. Galindo was up next and he bounced a single into left plating Villegas to give San Jose back the lead. Galindo then took second on a balk and scored when the following hitter, Jones, ripped a double into the left center field gap.
Tyler Rogers (3-0) was credited with the win out of the bullpen despite allowing Jacobs' game-tying homer. Rogers worked 1 1/3 innings with two runs (both earned) and two hits allowed. Bryce Bandilla (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) then struck out two in a 1-2-3 top of the ninth to earn his first save of the year.
J.R. Bradley (2-1), who entered the game for the Rawhide to begin the bottom of the eighth, suffered the loss. Bradley was charged with both eighth-inning runs.
The Giants jumped out early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Galindo led off with a triple into the right field corner before immediately scoring when Jones lined a single up the middle. Mitch Delfino then hit a fly ball double down the right field and when the throw from right fielder Alex Glenn back towards the infield skipped away for an error, Jones raced home to make it 2-0.
Kendry Flores started on the mound for San Jose and began his outing with three scoreless innings. Flores retired nine out of the first ten Visalia batters, including five via the strikeout.
The Giants and Rawhide then each scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings as San Jose maintained a slim lead. In the top of the fourth, Raul Navarro led off with a single, advanced to second on Brandon Drury's groundout and scored on Rudy Flores' two-out single. San Jose though got the run back in the bottom of the inning as Elliott Blair drew a one-out walk before scoring when the next batter, Shawn Payne, smacked a double down the right field line.
The back-and-forth affair continued in the fifth as Dallas Tarleton led off the top half with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and came home on Kevin Medrano's one-out double. Flores though kept the Giants in the lead when Socrates Brito lined into a double play to shortstop to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Galindo began the inning with a single before moving to second on Jones' sacrifice bunt. After Delfino flied out, Blake Miller delivered an RBI single to make it 4-2.
Visalia answered in the top of the sixth against Flores as Navarro singled to leadoff. A two-base wild pitch then moved Navarro to third before Drury's RBI groundout cut the lead to 4-3. However, San Jose responded in the bottom of the frame when Galindo reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on Jones' two-out single into center.
Flores finished his night with nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander allowed three runs (all earned) on seven hits with no walks. He left the game with the Giants ahead 5-3. Rogers recorded a strikeout of Medrano to end the top of the seventh and leave a runner at second base before Jacobs' game-tying home run in the eighth.
