June 20, 2005 - California League (CalL1)
Modesto Nuts News Release
The Modesto Nuts began the second half of the 2005 California League season with a loss to the High Desert Mavericks by the score of 8-5. The Mavericks got on the scoreboard early and often against Nuts starter Juan Morillo by scoring eight runs in the first three innings, which turned out to be enough for the Mavericks to begin the second half with a win.
The stars for the Mavericks were leftfielder Billy Butler who had three hits including a two run double in the first, catcher Adam Donachie who hit his third home run in the third inning and starting pitcher and All Star John Gragg III, who allowed one earned run in six innings to get his sixth win of the season.
The bright spots for the Nuts were left fielder Christian Colonel, who collected three of Modesto's ten hits including his third home run on the year, and Alberto Arias who pitched four scoreless innings in relief. Jason Burch threw one shutout inning, as did Jim Miller.
The series continues Tuesday night as left-hander Aaron Marsden (3-5, 5.11 ERA) takes the mound against left-hander Dusty Hughes (4-6, 6.05 ERA). Game time at John Thurman Field is 7:05 p.m.
