Half time-Today's game marks the beginning of the second half the Oaks finished in last place in the North Division 18 games out of first with a 26-44 record. The Blaze finish the first half with a 36-34 record 8 games out of first. Neither team qualified for a playoff spot however everyone starts over again today with a clean slate as the second half begins officially.

Blazing hot- The Bakersfield Blaze All-Star Thomas Diamond is an incredible 8-0 with a 1.99 ERA and has struck out 101 batters in 81.1 innings pitching including throwing a 1-hit complete game yesterday striking out 14 batters. Outfielder Kevin Mahar has hit in 5 straight and is 7-19 (.368), overall he his hitting .318 with 6 homeruns and 20 RBI. Third baseman Travis Metcalf leads the team with 41 RBI and is tied for the team lead with 9 homeruns along with teammate Nate Gold and overall is hitting .270.

Oaks burning- Aneudi Cuevas is the Oaks hottest hitter right now including hitting 2 homeruns in the final game of the road trip at Lancaster, and hit 4 homeruns on the road trip and drove in 13 RBI. He also had four 3-hit games on the road trip going 15-28 (.536). Joey Gomes has reached base in 15 straight games and has hit in 14 of the last 15 games going 24-58 (.414). Kris Dufner has hit in 7 straight games going 11 for 32 (.344) in that span, and also hit his first homerun of the year on the second to last day of the road trip. The versatile Dufner has been used at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, LF, DH, and even pitched this year. The newest member of the Oaks is Kevin Lynn who will be the latest member of the pitching staff and will start game one of this series.

Oaks Chop Away! The Oaks dropped a quick air strike on the Jethawks when they scored three in the top of the first first as Cuevas, Gomes and Arhart all drive in runs to give the Oaks a 3-0 lead. The Jethawks scored a run in the bottom of the second to make it 3-1, but both pitchers settled down and the game was scorless for the next three innings. In the sixth though the Oaks scored twice on back to back homeruns by Joey Gomes and Aneudi Cuevas, who was just getting started, and the Oaks lead 5-1.The next inning in the top of the sixth the Oaks would add two more runs on the second homerun of the night for Aneudi Cuevas his eleventh of the year as the Oaks took control of the game, scoring four runs in all and lead 9-1. The Jethawks put up three runs in the eighth highlighted by Danny Richar's fifth homerun of the year but Lancaster loses to the Oaks by a final score of 9-4. The Oaks win the final game of the six game road trip after losing the first five and stop their five game losing streak.

United we stand- The Blaze who just lost 3 of 4 against the High Desert Mavericks and have a 3-4 record in the last two series. The Oaks who just came back from a six game road trip lost 5 of the 6 games after being swept by the High Desert Mavericks and lost 2 of 3 to the Lancaster Jethawks going 1-5.

California Rotisserie League-The Oaks are now affiliated with the Tampa Devil Rays, who they signed a 2-year agreement with in the off-season. For the last 2 years the Oaks were affiliated with the Colorado Rockies for a 2nd time. There were a flurry off moves in the off-season in the California league, Modesto (A's) left to Stockton, Stockton to Bakersfield, Bakersfield to Visalia, Visalia (Rockies) went to Modesto now the nuts.

Oak Update - **6-20-Oaks have signed independent league pitcher Kevin Lynn

6-12-Have activated T.A. Fulmer for today's game and placed Josh Kranawetter on the Hudson Valley Roster. 6-10-Oaks promote Jay Sitzman and Elliot Johnson to "AA" Montgomery. Visalia also activated Carlos Ramos from the DL and added Jason St. Clair to the Roster from extended spring training. 6-4-Matthew Maniscalco was promoted to "AA" Montgomery and infielder Nester Perez was added to on Oaks roster. 6-2-Oaks add pitcher Rudy Lugo to roster from extended spring training. 6/1-The Oaks have added First baseman Gabby Martinez to their roster who come down from AA Montgomery after Wes Bankston was promoted to the Biscuits on 5/30.

5/25-Left-handed reliever Jeff Ridgeway way added to Oaks roster from extended spring training. 5/10-The Oaks added power hitter Wes Bankston to their lineup coming from extended spring training. Bankston was selected by Devil Rays in fourth round of 2002 draft. Last year We was named Charleston Player of the year, after hitting .289 23 HR 101 RBI, (30) 2B, 9 SB. Along with Delmon Young became the first teammates to have 100 RBI in the SAL since Ronald Wright (104) and Andruw Jones (101) did it for Macon in 1995 5/3 Oaks right-handed starter Brian Stokes was called up to AA Montgomery to pitch for the Biscuits in the Southern League. Stokes is the first Oak to be called up this season 4/8-Oaks Centerfielder Jason Pride has been diagnosed with a right knee sprain and will be out for a while. Last season Jason hit 17 HRs and 86 RBIs for Charleston and was the opening day starter in centerfield for the Oaks. Pridie was placed on the DL on 4/8 after injuring his knee attempting to chase down a triple hit by Clay Timpner, when he crashed into the wall on opening night.

California here I come-Seven Oaks players are native Californians as well as Pitching Coach Mary DeMerritt. Half the Oaks Roster, thirteen to be exact, have played at some point last year with New Oaks manager Steve Livesey at Charleston last year as Riverdogs.

Cuevas, Aneudi-Signed as a Rule 5 draft selection from Houston Astros on 12/16 2002. 2005- The Oaks hottest hitter right now including hitting 2 homeruns in the final game of the road trip at Lancaster, and hit 4 homeruns on the road trip and drove in 13 RBI. Davis, John-Paul-Acquired by the Cardinals in 2003 trade for Tino Martinez. Signed back with D-Rays Played at the University of Texas for three years before transferring to Arkansas Tech his final year to play with his younger brother. Davis is pitched in the Little League World Series. John-Paul's father (Stephen Davis) was actually drafted by 3 baseball teama and went to college (Oklahoma Sooners) on a 4 year baseball scholarship. His uncle (Greg Davis) went to a 2 year college on a baseball scholarship and John-Pauls brother (Caleb) went to a 2 year school and got a partial scholarship for his last years at Arkansas Tech. 2005- The Oaks hottest right now hitting in 11 of his last 13 games. Dufner, Kris-Taken D-Rays in 38th Round in 2003 Draft out of University of Delaware. Very versitle player, Kris is a switch hitter who posses speed. He has played 1st, 2nd, 3rd, LF, DH, and Pitcher this year. Also has batted 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th. 2005- Has hit in 7 straight games going 11 for 32 (.344) in that span, and also hit his first homerun of the year on the second to last day of the road trip. -The switch hitter is hitting .318 vs.righties (.280 vs. lefties) -Hitting .268 when playing third like last night (hitting .395 at second) -Has played 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, P and DH already this season. 2004-Spent 2004 in Bakersfield and had career high 23 RBIs 2003-Started season in Princeton then moved up to Hudson Valley where he hit 5 HRs.

Gomes, Joey-Drafted by D-Rays in 8th round in 2002 out of Santa Clara (CA). The native California resides in Petaluma, CA. 2005- Has reached base in 15 straight games and has hit in 14 of the last 15 games going 24-58 (.414). -So far in June hitting .373 (25-67) Finished May hitting .283, 4 homeruns and 23 RBI. Last night 1-5, one hit was a Grand Slam second slam of the season for the Oaks (Wes Bankston the other promoted to AA Montgomery, Bankston hit 2 HR in that game the other a 2-Run shot for a 2HR 6 RBI night). Schleicher Grand Slam was the first hit a Recreation Park this season. -Hitting .093 vs. righties (.250 vs. lefties) Has played 3rd base and LF. . 2004- Hit .260 2 HR 34 RBIs for Charleston. -Baseball America tabbed him as having the organization's best infield arm. 2003-Played in only 12 games

Simmons, Colt-Drafted by D-Rays in 33rd Round in 2000 Draft. 2005-Playing LF for the first time this season has only been a catcher or DH -June hitting .297 (11-37) -Hitting just .200 @home in 19 games (.320 away 16 games) -Hitting .282 vs. Righties (.154 vs. lefties) -Second game this season in LF went 2-5 in first game, all others as DH or C. 2004-Had 20 game hitting streak, only 6th Ray ever to hit in 20 or more straight games. -Named to SAL mid & post season All-Star teams. Also was used as DH, PR, PH -Coming from extended spring training playing his first game of the year tonight. -2005-Just joined the Oaks from extended spring and has hit in all 5 games he has appeared in going 11-23 w/ 4 of them being multi-hit games (2 three hit games as well) 2004-Hit .243 last year at Charleston with 3 HR and 28 RBI in 53 games before being promoted to Bakerfield where he was hitless in 6 games. -2003-split time between Hudson Valley (hit .291) and Charleston (hit .148) -2002- split time between Hudson Valley (hit .261) and Charleston (.148) -2001- Hit .241 at Princeton

Brian went to Armstrong College St. (Ga), was signed as free agent by the Devil Rays in 2002. 2005-Last time out 5/23 vs. SJ 4IP, 5R, 10H (HR), BB, 3K, in 10-8 loss.
