NTDP Announces 2018-19 Schedule

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - USA Hockey's National Team Development Program has announced its full 2018-19 schedule for both its Under-17 and Under-18 teams. It will mark the NTDP's 22nd season and fourth season at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.

Below are some of the highlights of both schedules:

GETTING STARTED: The Under-18 Team will open the season, with the rest of the USHL teams, at the USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 27-30. The squad will look to continue its momentum after claiming the best-ever USHL season finish as U17s after advancing to the 2017-18 Eastern Conference Finals.

The Under-17 team will start with USHL action on Oct. 5-6 when the NTDP will host its home opener in back-to-back games against the Madison Capitols.

INTERNATIONAL PLAY: To start the month of November, both the U18s and U17s will be traveling for international tournaments. The Under-18 Team will travel to Sweden for the Under-18 Five Nations Tournament, while the Under-17 Team will travel to Saint John, New Brunswick, to defend its 2017 championship at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

USA Hockey Arena will then host the U17s in the Under-17 Four Nations Tournament on Dec. 9-15.

In February, both teams will play in its respective Five Nations Tournaments, with the Under-17 Team traveling to Sweden and the Under-18 Team headed to Russia.

COLLEGE SERIES: The Under-18 Team will host six college opponents at USA Hockey Arena, including the University of Minnesota Oct.13, Bowling Green State University Nov. 21, the University of Maine Dec. 8, Lake Superior State University Dec. 16, The College of the Holy Cross Jan. 1 and Adrian College Jan. 8. NOTABLE NCAA ROAD MATCHUPS: The Under-18 Team will compete on the road against three out of the four teams that advanced to the 2018 NCAA Frozen Four, when it plays the University of Notre Dame Oct. 7, the University of Michigan Oct. 12, and defending NCAA champion University of Minnesota Duluth Jan. 5.

Other notable road matchups include Ferris State University, Boston University, Harvard University, Dartmouth College, Michigan State University, St. Cloud State University, University of North Dakota and the University of Wisconsin.

HOLIDAYS WITH TEAM USA: The NTDP's home schedule features games around multiple U.S. holidays this season, including a game the day before Thanksgiving (Nov. 21) vs. Bowling Green, on New Year's Day (Jan. 1) vs. Holy Cross, and on Martin. Luther King Day (Jan. 21) vs. the Chicago Steel.

CELEBRATING HWAA: The NTDP will help celebrate the 12th annual Hockey Week Across America when the U17s host Muskegon on Friday, Feb. 22 at USA Hockey Arena.

CLOSING IT OUT: The Youngstown Phantoms will visit USA Hockey Arena for three of the last four home games for the 2018-19 NTDP season, with the U17s facing the Phantoms on March 29 and closing the season April 12.

The U18s will close their season with the Phantoms on March 30.

BY THE NUMBERS

The U18s play a total of 17 NCAA teams in the 2018-19 season, six of which are home games. The slate includes games against 16 Division-I teams and one Division-III team.

The U17 Team plays in three international tournaments, as do the U18s; one of which, the U17s Five Nations Tournament, will be hosted at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.

The U17s longest home stand spans four games, which happens Jan. 3-12. The U18s longest home stand is four games from March 15-23.

The U17s longest span on the road is five games from March 1-16, while the Under-18s longest road game span is five games from Feb. 16-March 9.

The home schedule features 15 Friday games, 11 Saturday games, three Tuesday games, two Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday games and one Monday contest.
