Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
A trio of Winnipeg Goldeyes helped the Northern League throttle the Golden Baseball League 9-3 last night in Tucson, Ariz. in the International Minor League All-Star Game.
Goldeyes shortstop Wes Long went one-for-four at the plate and scored twice, including being driven in by Winnipeg outfielder Kevin West in the seventh inning.
West was one of the leaders at the plate for the Northern League, going two-for-five with an RBI and scoring twice.
The Northern League jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the three innings and blew the game open by taking a 9-2 edge in the seventh inning.
Goldeyes pitcher Chris Salamida came into the game in the bottom of the seventh inning and promptly got the GBL to go down in order. They were the only three batters he faced.
Rockford RiverHawks outfielder Jason James was named the game's MVP. He had a two-for-three night with a pair of RBI and scored a run.
With the all-star game over, the Goldeyes will turn their focus to the second half of the Northern League season, as they try to put an end to a six-game losing streak tomorrow in Fargo. Winnipeg begins the second half with three games on the road against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before returning home next week for a seven-game home stand against the Lake County Fielders and Schaumburg Flyers.
