Rockford RiverHawks News Release

ZION, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks' 6-2 loss at Lake County on Sunday was decided in a familiar manner.

Josh Short hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth inning as the Fielders took two of three games in the last series before the Northern League breaks for an interleague all-star game. The winning run in each game scored on a home run.

Jason James homered for the RiverHawks, who have lost five of their last six games.

Short broke a 1-1 tie with his 13th home run of the year. In the bottom of the fifth, Amos Ramon led off with a double and Short followed a drive to left off Rockford starter Roger Lincoln. Lincoln (3-4), who pitched on three days' rest, lasted 4 1/3 innings.

Lake County starter Garry Bakker (3-4) struck out 10 and scattered two hits over six innings, but walked six. The RiverHawks left runners in scoring position in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

James closed the deficit to a run with a home run in the top of the seventh, but in the bottom half of the inning, the Fielders scored three times to pull away. Jeff Dunbar and pinch-hitter Aaron Cone led off with back-to-back doubles. Cone later scored on a Kevin Haas sacrifice fly and Brandon Anderson singled in a two-out run.

The RiverHawks are off for the next three days. James and closer Scott Roehl will join the Northern League All-Star Team for its game against the Golden League's All-Stars at 8 p.m. CDT Wednesday at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Ariz.

The RiverHawks host the Fielders at 7:05 p.m. Thursday. The annual Muscular Dystrophy Association jersey auction, featuring Jacksonville Jaguars safety and Byron native Sean Considine, will immediately follow the game. It's also Miller Lite/2nd Cousin's Dollar Beer Night. The 2nd annual Guns vs. Hoses charity softball game is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. It's also Rockford Chamber Night, Byron Community Night and Jimmy Buffet Night.
