Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, Ind. - The Northern League defeated the Golden Baseball League 9-3 in the International Minor League All-Star Game at Hi Corbett Field on Wednesday. Willie Glen of the Gary SouthShore RailCats pitched a scoreless inning in relief and Jason James of the Rockford RiverHawks was named the game's MVP after going 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and 2 RBI.
The Northern League squad got things going early when the first five batters of the game each recorded a hit en route to three first inning runs. The three runs allowed by starting pitcher Wes Etheridge equaled the total number of earned runs the righty allowed in 43 innings of work in the GBL. The NL tacked on a run in the second and again in the third to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
RailCats righty Willie Glen entered the game in the bottom of the third inning and pitched a scoreless frame for the NL.
The Golden Baseball League battled back adding a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-2. That is as close the GBL would get as the NL put the game out of reach with four runs in the seventh capped off by a bases loaded triple by third baseman Ramos Amos of the Lake County Fielders.
The RailCats return to action tomorrow, Friday, July 16 when they will travel to Schaumburg to take on the Flyers for a 6:45 p.m. contest and the first of a seven-game road trip that includes a visit to Fargo for a four game series. The 'Cats return home to
U. S. Steel Yard on Friday, July 23 when they will host the Lake County Fielders for a 7 p.m. game on Money Giveaway Night. The RailCats will be handing out $2,000 in cash spread out to the first 1,000 fans entering the gates with five lucky fans taking home $100 so be sure to arrive early to ensure your chance to get paid to come watch a RailCats game.
