North Shore Spirit News Release
John Schmitz hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to lift North Shore to a 7-6 victory in the completion of yesterday's suspended game at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls.
The two teams picked up the game at the start of the seventh inning with the score tied 6-6. North Shore's Marcos Agramonte led off the ninth with a double to center field and went to third on an error. Schmitz followed with a fly ball to center, plating Agramonte.
Chad Bircher (2-5) picked up the victory in relief for the Spirit, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Joe Ricciardi worked the final 2/3 of an inning to pick up his sixth save of the year. Chris Keelin (2-2) took the loss, surrendering one unearned run in three innings of work.
Darren Blakely was 4-for-5 for New Jersey with two triples and three RBI. Blakely keyed a four run rally in the fifth inning yesterday, tripling home two runs to pull the Jackals to within 6-5 at the time. Travis Bailey's RBI fielders choice tied the game later in the inning. An inning later rain forced the game to be suspended and completed today.
Eddie Muth drove in three runs for North Shore, including a two-run single in the fifth inning to give the Spirit a short-lived, 6-2 lead.
The second game will start at approx. 8:45pm.
