Ambassadors Win Game Called in Sixth, Doubleheader Tomorrow

July 22, 2003 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors scored two runs with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Brian Macchi double, just one batter before the rains came and washed out the Ambassadors and Brockton Rox, giving Allentown a victory in five and two thirds innings Tuesday night in Allentown.

Macchi fouled off five pitches down in the count 1-2 before doubling into right-center field to score Jorge Diaz and Ender Gonzalez, who had both singled to begin the inning. Then Greg Schmidt walked, and the rain came. After waiting for an hour, the game was over due to the weather, and the scheduled second game of the doubleheader will be played tomorrow as part of a doubleheader.

The game was a continuation from last night, when rain halted play after three and a third innings with no score. Both starters, Mike Riley for the Ambassadors and Scott Martin for the Rox, did not come back out, with Jose Guerrero taking the mound for Allentown and Fontella Jones pitching for the Rox. Guerrero pitched two scoreless innings allowing one walk and striking out two. Jones pitched two and two thirds allowing two runs on three hits. He took the loss and is now 0-2. Guerrero picked up the win, he is 1-1. Macchi finished the game 2-3 with a double and two RBI. The win improves the Ambassadors record to 4-7, while the Rox fall to 4-6. The doubleheader tomorrow will begin at 5:05, with two seven inning games scheduled.
