Let's Make a Deal (or Two)

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks made two separate trades on Sunday, the Northeast League club announced today. The first deal sent C Luis Melendez to the Allentown (PA) Ambassadors for the Ambassadors first round pick in the 2004 Northeast League tryout camp. In the second move, the Jacks acquired C Mikaela Dworken (MEE-kay-la Do-war-KEN) from the New Jersey Jackals for a player to be named later.

Dworken was signed by the Jackals last season and had an outstanding season, hitting .330 with 11 home runs and 46 RBI. A resident of Sarasota, FL, Dworken was hitting .192 with seven RBI in limited playing time with the Jackals this season. He played one season in the Frontier League with the Richmond (IN) Roosters after graduating from Brewton-Parker College in Georgia, also the alma mater of Lumberjack pitcher Danny Miller.

Melendez hit .227 with three RBI for the Lumberjacks while backing up starter Brad Hargreaves. He will have an opportunity to see more playing time in Allentown.
