North Shore Spirit News Release
LYNN, MA -- The North Shore Spirit powered by the long ball and a gusty pitching performance battled from behind to beat Berkshire 10-6 Wednesday night at New Fraser Field in Lynn. The win helped the Spirit (21-16) keep pace with Brockton in the race for first place in the North East League North Division. The Spirit are one half game off the pace heading down the stretch.
Spirit ace John Kelly (6-0) worked through some difficult innings but lasted eight innings for the win. Kelly was touched for three runs in the second, two in the third and one in the sixth inning, but each time the Spirit offense rallied to help Kelly preserve the win.
In the second inning Shortstop Yuri Sanchez (2-4) belted his first homerun of the year to right center field to drive in a pair. In the third Frank Charles knocked in a run on an infield out and Eddie Muth, with the bases loaded, hit a scorching line drive double to right center field to knock home two more.
The Spirit took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Berkshire pitcher Doug Dimma pitching in relief of starter Tony Harden the Spirit mounted a three run attack which was aided by a Dimma error. After a leadoff double by Jason Startari and a Sanchez single, Marcos Agramonte bunted home a run when Startari beat the throw to the plate. John Schmitz dropped a bunt that Dimma threw away scoring Agramonte and Schmitz would eventually score the innings third run on a pass ball making the score 8-6 after six.
The Spirit used the long ball to widen the lead in the seventh and eighth innings.
Fran Riordan (2nd) belted a solo shot to left in the seventh and Mike Tejada (3rd) hit a solo shot in the eighth for the 10-6 final score.
Berkshire first baseman Pete Paciorek hit his second homerun of the year in the third inning. Doug Dimma (1-3) suffered the loss.
