New Jersey Jackals News Release

In a game that featured several bizarre moments, Yuri Sanchez escaped a rundown to score the winning run in the top of the ninth as North Shore downed the Jackals 7-6 at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls.

Sanchez, who had just tripled home pinch runner Carlos Sepulveda to tie the game, was caught between third and home when Marcos Agramonte missed a squeeze bunt attempt. Sanchez was able to outrun Joe Kerrigan's tag and then beat the throw to the plate to give the Spirit the lead.

The Jackals held a 6-3 lead in the top of the seventh when Agramonte hit his second triple of the game, driving home Rob Fischer. On the following play, Jackals starter Aaron Myers appealed to first base, claiming Agramonte had missed the bag. On the play Agramonte broke for home, stealing the base easily to pull the Spirit to within 6-5.

In the bottom of the third New Jersey erased a 3-2 deficit with three consecutive home runs. Scott McKee, who earlier homered in the second inning, singled to lead off the inning. Keith Maxwell followed with a blast to left center to give the Jackals the lead. Chris Rowan followed by crushing an 0-2 pitch from North Shore starter Klae Calvert over the left field wall. Craig Conway then pulled the very next pitch from Calvert down the left field line for his first homer of the season and a 6-3 advantage.

Calvert picked up his sixth win of the year in eight decisions, weathering six runs and 13 hits in eight innings. Joe Ricciardi worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his seventh save.

Ben Grezlovski (5-3) pitched the ninth and took the loss for the Jackals. Maxwell and McKee both had three hits for New Jersey.
