Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors were swept in a doubleheader by the Brockton Rox, with Mike Marchesano losing a no hitter with only two outs left to go in the second game Wednesday night at Bicentennial Park.

The Ambassadors lost the first game 9-6, with the Rox pounding out 17 hits. The Ambassadors actually scored first, with Jorge Diaz scoring on a Vic Davilla sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, but Brockton answered with five runs in the top of the second off Ambassador starter Kevin Perrucci, who was making his debut as an Ambassador. Nestor Smith capped off the inning with a three run home run to right, his sixth.

The Ambassadors would get two runs in the bottom of the inning, with Kevin Moore singling home Greg Schmidt, who had doubled, and Tito Cruz, who had been hit by a pitch, scoring on a Cedrick Harris sacrifice fly. And they would add another off Rox starter Joey Baker in the fourth on a Vic Davilla solo home run, his eleventh, to pull within one.

But Brockton scored two more in the fourth, chasing Perrucci out of the game. Jake Daubert singled home Craig Lewis, and Smith singled Daubert home to widen the lead for Brockton. Harris threw Abner Arroyo out at the plate on Daubert's hit, Harris' tenth outfield assist this season.

After the Ambassadors added another in the fourth, the Rox scored two in the fifth off Carlos Gomez, including a solo home run from Arroyo, his first. Arroyo finished the game 3-4 with a double and a home run and an RBI. He also scored two runs. Smith was 2-4 with a home run and four RBI. The Rox cruised the rest of the way and won 9-6. Baker got the win, he is now 6-3, while Perrucci took the loss, he is 0-1. Conor Brooks got his eleventh save.

In the second game, the Rox scored one in the top of the second, with Jose Medina scoring on a Mike Landry single off Ambassador starter John Dillinger. The Rox would add another in the third on a Francisco Matos RBI single, and two more in the fourth. Nestor Smith drove in both Jake Daubert and Medina with a single to give the Rox the 4-0 lead.

Meanwhile Mike Marchesano was mowing down the Ambassadors, allowing a walk in the first and a hit batsman in the sixth, but no hits. He lost the no hitter with two outs to go in the seventh when Marlon Roche doubled, but kept the Ambassadors off the scoreboard and recorded the shutout victory. The win moves his record to 5-5, while the loss puts Dillinger's record at 5-4.

The Ambassadors fall to 4-9 in the second half with the two losses, while Brockton gets to the .500 mark, they are now 6-6. The two teams wrap up the series tomorrow night, with Nolan Fry taking the mound for the Ambassadors. It is Can Coozy Night, so the first 500 fans in attendance will get a coozy courtesy of Yellow Book.
