
North Carolina Courage Face Reign FC for First Time in 2019

North Carolina Courage News Release
Cary, N.C. - The North Carolina Courage (2W-1L-3D) will travel to Reign FC (1W-1L-3D) on Monday, May 27 for the first time this season. The Memorial Day matchup will take place at the new home of Reign FC, Cheney Stadium, in Tacoma, Wash. The North Carolina Courage leads the overall series between the two teams with an undefeated record of 5W-0L-1D.
Most recently, the Courage earned a draw against Utah Royals FC. Elizabeth Eddy had the team's only and equalizing goal in the 78th minute. Eddy came into the game as a substitution in the 69th minute, making her first appearance of the season. Eddy's goal was nominated for the NWSL Goal of the Week.
Debinha assisted the goal, flicking the ball to Eddy's feet before she hit the powerful shot into the back of the net. It was Debinha's first assist of the season.
Reign FC is coming off of their first win of 2019, defeating Sky Blue FC, 2-1. Jodie Taylor scored the team's winning goal in the 78th minute. Sky Blue scored first in the game in the 10th minute, but Julie James was quick to answer. James took an arching corner kick that found its way into the goal after a Sky Blue own goal.
With the World Cup quickly approaching, the North Carolina Courage is without all of the team's international players except Abby Erceg, who will remain with the team for the match. Samantha Mewis, Crystal Dunn, Jessica McDonald, and Abby Dahlkemper will be with the USWNT for the final game of the Send-Off Series against Mexico on Sunday, May 25 at 12:00 p.m.
Up Next: The North Carolina Courage will travel to Orlando to take on the Pride on June 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET. This is the second meeting between the two teams. The NC Courage defeated the Pride, 5-0, on April 17.
Players to Watch
North Carolina Courage- #15 Jaelene Hinkle
Hinkle has started and played in all six games this season for a total of 540 minutes. During the 2018 season, she played every minute in the Courage's playoff run that ended with them winning the NWSL Championship. Hinkle has one assist on the season and 11 key passes. She will look to continue the strength of the Courage's backline in the upcoming match as one of the team's leading defenders.
Reign FC- #11 Darian Jenkins
Jenkins has played and started in three games for a total of 202 minutes during the Reign's 2019 season. During the upcoming match against her former team, Jenkins will look to increase her offensive output.
