May 22, 2008 - Norfolk took advantage of six Syracuse errors as they knocked off the Chiefs 5-4 Thursday night from Harbor Park.

With the score tied at 4-4 entering the final frame, Brandon Fahey led off with a single to right off of Chiefs reliever Jordan De Jong (3-2). After a flyout by Tike Redman, Mike McCoy reached safely on a throwing error by shortstop Jeff Bannon, and De Jong followed by intentionally walking Luis Terrero to load the bases. Oscar Salazar then hit a potential double play grounder to Bannon, but the shortstop could not handle the ball cleanly, enabling Fahey to cross the plate with the winning run.

The victory was Norfolk's third straight to start the homestand after finishing up their ten-day road trip at 1-9.

Norfolk had jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning, thanks to a two-run double by Chris Roberson and an RBI single by Brandon Fahey. Norfolk added an unearned run in the fourth frame go up 4-0, and they carried that lead into the eighth before Syracuse rallied against the Tides bullpen.

Syracuse left fielder Adam Lind clubbed a two-run triple off of Ryan Bukvich in the eighth to bring the Chiefs within 4-2, and Lind later came in to score on a groundout by Buck Coats. Erik Kratz then doubled off of Bob McCrory, and Chip Cannon followed with a single to left that plated pinch runner Russ Adams to knot the score at 4-4.

Syracuse's late rally denied Norfolk starter Chris Waters his first Triple-A win, as the southpaw turned in his best outing since being promoted from Double-A Bowie in early May. Waters yielded just three hits and four walks in 6.2 shutout innings, striking out four.

Greg Aquino (1-0) earned the win for the Tides with a scoreless 9th inning.

The Tides and Chiefs will continue their four-game series on Friday night, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 7:15. Jon Leicester (2-4, 6.97) will take the mound for the Tides against Syracuse right-hander Kane Davis (2-5, 3.63).
