Charlotte Independence News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Independence today announced the signing of dynamic forward Norberto Ochoa. He is the ninth new player to reach agreement with the second-year USL club this offseason, and brings the current roster up to 18.

Ochoa spent the 2015 season playing at UC Riverside, where he earned NSCAA Third Team All-Far West Region and First Team All-Big West Conference honors. The forward appeared in 19 games last season, making 14 starts and recording seven goals plus two assists. Ochoa also spent two years at California Junior College power Mount San Antonio, earning a National Championship in 2011 and being named MVP of the 2012 CCCAA Finals.

"We're excited to have Norberto with us," said Independence Head Coach Mike Jeffries. "He gives us another dynamic player in the final third, a very capable finisher - with both feet and with his head - and his movement is very good. He's been in good environments growing up, so we have high expectations that he will develop and contribute to the group."

Soccer talent is prevalent in the Ochoa family, as Norberto has four brothers who also play the sport. Older brother Sammy Ochoa recently re-signed for his second season with USL Western Conference opponent the Tulsa Roughnecks. The Ochoa family is originally from Mexico, but 25-year-old Norberto grew up in Riverside, Calif.

The Independence open the 2016 season this Saturday, March 26, with a home match against Louisville City FC at Ramblewood Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm ET. Tickets are available at www.charlotteindependence.com/tickets or by calling 704-206-1515.
