Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 5, 2012) - The Dash finished off a clean sweep of the Potomac Nationals during their 10 meetings in the Triad inside BB&T Ballpark with a 6-4 victory Sunday afternoon.

Winston-Salem (26-17, 70-42-1) swept the Nationals on three different occasions at BB&T Ballpark: April 23-26, June 11-13 and this weekend. Overall, the Dash are 13-4 against the P-Nats (20-23, 51-62), and the club has averaged 7.7 runs per games in those 17 contests. With Sunday's win, Winston-Salem has also won 11 of its last 13 games dating back to July 23.

The Dash jumped out to an early lead in the first. Marcus Semien doubled home Keenyn Walker, who led off the inning with a single. Trayce Thompson followed with a run-producing single to push his league-leading RBI total to 87.

Winston replicated that offensive showing in the second thanks to a Daniel Wagner RBI fielder's choice and a Semien RBI single. Juan Silverio extended the Dash's advantage to 5-0 when he singled home Michael Earley in the third inning. Two frames later, Earley touched home plate due to a wild pitch.

Potomac's lone scoring inning came in the sixth. The Nationals batted around in the inning, with Adrian Sanchez's two-run double representing the big knock. Winston-Salem starter Chris Bassitt (3-2) had a scoreless streak of 10 innings until that frame, but he still earned his second win in a row.

Out of the bullpen, Jon Bachanov surrendered two inherited runners before settling down to record two and two-thirds frames of scoreless relief. Taylor Thompson slammed the door on the P-Nats in the ninth with a perfect inning for his ninth save in as many chances. Six of Thompson's last eight appearances have resulted in saves.

Winston wrapped up its six-game homestand with a 5-1 record. Over the next 17 days, the Dash have only three home games. The club will make its final regular season trip to all four Northern Division sites over the next two and a half weeks.

Following a scheduled off day Monday, the Dash return to action Tuesday night at 7:05 at Wilmington to kick off a six-game road trip. Erik Johnson (1-2, 2.95 ERA) will toe the rubber for Winston-Salem against fellow right-hander Elisaul Pimentel (3-1, 3.13 ERA). Pre-game coverage Tuesday night from the First State begins at 6:50 on wsdash.com.

The Dash are back at BB&T Ballpark Monday, August 13, for a three-game series with the Salem Red Sox. To secure your seats, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
