
Not A Perfect 10: Dash Complete BB&T Ballpark Sweep of Potomac

(WINSTON-SALEM, NC) - Winston-Salem jumped out to an early lead and held on to a 6-4 win over the Potomac Nationals. The Dash finish the season series winning all ten games played at BB&T Ballpark.
In the three year history of BB&T Ballpark, the P-Nats have never won a series in Winston-Salem and are 7-23 over 30 regular season games. They're also 0-16 in the state of North Carolina.
The Dash jumped on Potomac starter Matt Grace early with four hits to lead off the game. Grace, who last time he faced the Dash gave up ten earned runs, yielded an RBI double to Marcus Semien and a RBI single to Trayce Thompson in the first inning. Winston-Salem led 2-0 after one inning.
Juan Silverio led off the second inning with a triple and scored on a fielders choice to extend the Dash lead to 3-0. Winston-Salem added another run on a Semien single in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Silverio added a one-run single in the third to give the Dash a 5-0 lead.
Grace (6-11) was tagged for five earned runs in three innings giving up nine hits. He's lost all four starts he's had against Winston-Salem giving up 32 hits in just 15 1/3 innings.
After Winston-Salem added another un in the fifth to increase their lead to 6-0, Potomac mounted a rally in the sixth against Dash starter Chris Bassitt. Michael Taylor led off with a single but had to be removed from the game for a pinch-runner in James Skelton. Blake Kelso doubled to put runners at second and third with no outs. Adrian Sanchez knocked both runners in with a ground-rule double to right and the P-Nats were ont he board. Stephen King hit a sac fly scoring Sanchez while Erick Fernandez knocked a two-out RBI single to bring the Nationals within 6-4 of Winston-Salem.
Bassitt (3-2) earned the win by tossing five and a third innings striking out four while allowing four earned runs.
However, the Dash shut down the P-Nats for the final three innings. Jon Bachanov and Taylor Thompson combined to toss the final three and two-thirds scoreless. Thompson earned his second save of the series and ninth of the season by tossing a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Tomorrow is a day off for Potomac before they start a three-game series with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in South Carolina on Tuesday night. The Nationals return home on Friday, August 10th to start a six game home stand at 7:05 PM against Winston-Salem.
