Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

MIDLAND - Trailing 6-1, Corpus Christi scored 10 times over the final four frames Monday night to stun the RockHounds 11-7 in 10 innings at Security Bank Ballpark.

The Hooks (26-17) and Midland (23-20) split the four-game series, which featured three 10-inning affairs.

Teoscar Hernandez led the charge Monday night, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored, three doubles and four RBIs.

Facing a five-run deficit in the seventh, Hernandez worked a two-out walk from Kyle Finnegan. Alex Bregman then belted a two-run shot over the left-field fence for his 11th home run, which is ted for the Texas League lead.

Midland got a run back in the home half, making the score 7-3.

Andres Avila struck out the first hitter in the Hooks eighth before allowing the next two to reach. Conrad Gregor coaxed a free pass and Nick Tanielu singled to left-center. Following another strikeout, Chan-Jong Moon was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Roberto Pena grounded to short and Franklin Barreto tried to force Moon at second but his throw was wide, permitting Gregor to come home.

Hernandez was next and seared a bases-clearing double off the left-field fence to tie the game at 7.

Angel Heredia, who allowed a run in the seventh, retired the final six men he faced, striking out four.

Aaron West entered in the ninth and yielded back-to-back, one-out singles, staging runners at the corners for Midland. Hooks skipper Rodney Linares elected to walk lead-off hitter Brett Vertigan intentionally, loading the bases for Barreto, Oakland's top prospect. West induced a lineout to shallow center and then got a ground ball to end the inning.

In the top of the 10th, Moon cracked a lead-off single against Jake Sanchez (1-2) and advanced to second on Pena's sac bunt. Facing Trey Cochran-Gill, Hernandez worked the count full before delivering his third double of the night, a line-drive to left-center for the go-ahead tally.

Later in the frame, two-out RBI singles by J.D. Davis and Gregor helped pave the way toward three more runs and an 11-7 edge.

West (3-0) worked around a base hit in the home half to record his third consecutive victory.

The Hooks used five pitchers Monday as starter Francis Martes was unable to complete the first. Martes walked three batters and recorded two outs before being forced to exit due to a pitch count of 34.

Corpus Christi begins a six-game home stand Tuesday night as Arkansas comes to town. Cy Sneed (2-1, 3.45) gets the ball for the Hooks. Blayne Weller (2-5, 3.89) goes for the Travelers. Click Here for the full rundown of happenings this week at Whataburger Field.
