Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Logan Moon smoked a seventh-inning homer and Kevin McCarthy notched a six-out save as Northwest Arkansas took game one of a three-game series against the San Antonio Missions Tuesday night by a 2-1 final score.
McCarthy worked hard for his Texas League-leading eighth save of the season. The first three outs achieved in the eight were retired in orders; but the right-hander walked Nelson Ward to lead-off the ninth inning, gave up an infield single before striking out clean-up batter, Nick Torres, for the first out. Manager, Vance Wilson, elected to walk Mike Olt to load the bases which set up the game-ending double-play.
Missions' right-fielder, Yeison Asencio, tapped a 2-0 McCarthy slider back to the hill. McCarthy relayed a throw to Jack Lopez at second base and then the return throw to first barely beat Asencio down the line to hold on for the win.
Moon's homer came on the heels of Ward's game-tying big fly in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Blue Springs, Mo. native cracked a line-drive over the left-field wall to give the Naturals (21-23) a 2-1 advantage. Moon finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and one run batted in.
Right-hander, Jake Junis, worked 5.0-shutout frames for the Naturals tonight, striking out six. He scattered two hits while right-hander, Evan Beal (2-0, 1.80) earned the win out of the bullpen. Beal worked 2.0 innings, one run, two hits and struck out four on his night.
Zane Evans gave the Naturals a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning, bringing home Ryan OHearn for the first run on a run-scoring fielder's choice.
Lopez led the offense with a 3-for-4 game, recording his first three-hit game of the season.
The Naturals' look to win a series on Wednesday morning as right-hander, Ashton Goudeau (0-0, 0.00) makes his first start for Northwest Arkansas. Right-hander, Kyle Lloyd (1-0, 4.63) counters for the Missions. He makes his second start for the home team.
